What are dentures?

Dentures are removable oral appliances that replace your permanent teeth and the surrounding tissues. They rest on top of your gums and help you bite and chew.

At Dentistry With A Smile Inc., Dr. Sebastian has strong relationships with denture labs in the area. The false teeth she helps design fit comfortably, are made of quality materials, and last for years.

What are the types of dentures?

At Dentistry With A Smile Inc., Dr. Sebastian offers several types of dentures, including:

Partial dentures

Dr. Sebastian prescribes partial dentures if you’re missing only a few permanent teeth. Partial dentures have several false teeth on top of a wire frame. The frame connects to small metal clasps that Dr. Sebastian bonds to your remaining healthy teeth.

Complete dentures

Complete dentures replace an entire row of teeth (either your upper or lower dental arch). These dentures have a metal base, pink gums made of acrylic or plastic, and false teeth. You apply an adhesive to the bottom, preventing the dentures from moving out of place.

Implant-anchored dentures

Implant-anchored dentures replace an entire row of teeth like complete dentures. The only difference is that they attach to dental implants –– metal posts that Dr. Sebastian inserts into your empty tooth sockets.

What does getting dentures involve?

At Dentistry With A Smile Inc., getting dentures takes at least two visits several weeks apart.

Dr. Sebastian reviews your dental records, completes an oral exam, and takes digital X-rays. She then uses an intraoral scanner to take 3D impressions of your mouth, including your jaw, gums, and remaining teeth (if you have any).

Dr. Sebastian sends your digital impressions to a nearby denture lab. The lab creates a custom set of dentures that fit you perfectly.

Several weeks later, when your dentures are finished, you return to Dentistry With A Smile Inc. Dr. Sebastian has you try your dentures on. She checks your bite, makes adjustments, and explains how to keep the dentures in good condition.

How long do dentures last?

Dentures last five to seven years* on average, but you can extend their lifespan by taking good care of them. Dr. Sebastian recommends cleaning your dentures daily, handling them carefully, and soaking them in an approved antiseptic solution at night.
